Traumatic Brain Injuries

Traumatic Brain Injury & Other Acquired Brain Damage

An acquired brain injury (ABI) is essentially any injury to the brain that occurs after birth. In other words, it is not hereditary, degenerative or induced by birth trauma. An acquired brain injury causes a change in neural activity. This can be a dangerous and life-altering change for most people. Successful, healthy neural activity is key to living a self-sufficient life in many cases. Neural activity is responsible for our body’s overall day-to-day functions, mind-body awareness and overall consciousness of ourselves and our surroundings.

An ABI may be caused by, but not limited to, any of the following circumstances:

  • Alcohol or drug abuse
  • Aneurysm
  • Cardiac Arrest
  • Car Crash
  • CO2 Poisoning
  • Gunshot wound to the head
  • Heart Attack
  • Hemorrhage
  • Near-drowning
  • Objects falling on the head
  • Stroke
  • Tumor

Traumatic (TBI) and Non-Traumatic Brain Injuries

Acquired brain injuries may be traumatic or non-traumatic. The main distinction between the two is where the injury originated. If the injury was caused by an internal factor, such as lack of oxygen to the brain, it is considered a non-traumatic injury. If the brain injury was caused by an external factor, such as a motor-vehicle, then it is considered a traumatic injury. The type of injury plays an important role in the side effects a person may experience, as well. Oftentimes, the area of the head or brain where the injury occurred is the area of the brain that will be most affected.
Have you or a loved one experienced any of the following side effects from an ABI?

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Difficulty walking or sitting
  • Disobedience
  • Erratic behavior
  • Fatigue
  • Forgetfulness
  • Impulsiveness
  • Inappropriate behavior
  • Memory loss
  • Newly, easily distracted
  • Slurred speech

All of the above are possible side effects of both traumatic and non-traumatic brain injuries. Anna Dubrovsky and partners have worked with families all over the Bay Area to help them receive compensation for brain injuries. There is extensive care involved with recovering
from and coping with brain injuries, and you deserve to receive financial reimbursements for the costs.

A major cause of brain injuries is motor accidents. Due to the speeds at which the accidents occur, many auto and motor-related brain injuries are far more devastating than other brain injuries. Other common causes of brain injuries are sports-related injuries, falls, assault
and child abuse. All of these are potentially devastating brain injuries and should be addressed immediately.
